After creating hits with the likes of Bunji Garlin, Machel Montano and Major Lazer, Freetown Collective will be releasing their first studio album, Born in Darkness with a live launch at Callaloo Company (Peter Minshall’s Mas Camp)  on June 30th, 2018.

The 11 piece album comes after years of steadily building their momentum and fan base.

“It’s new,”

says lead vocalist Muhammad Muwakil who considers the album’s content and sound

“a bold first step”.

“We had to kinda jump off the cliff. Which is what the album is about,”

lead guitarist/vocalist Lou Lyons adds.

Produced by Keron ‘Sheriff Mumbles’ Thompson, Born in Darkness is both a great album filled with hot singles and an immersive examination of the development of Freetown Collective and a seamless interpretation of their sound.

The launch concert is the celebration of a labour of love.

The Born in Darkness Album Launch follows the two-month ‘Tight Spaces Acoustic Tour’ – a multi-stop heart-to-heart with Freetown ‘residents’ throughout the country – and is seen as a departure from indigenously produced contemporary music.

“The music, the sound, sonically is not something you can find in Trinidad and Tobago right now,” Lyons insists “and daresay in its present packaging and presentation this sound has not been seen in this way before.”

Fitting then that the public’s first taste of this musical groundbreaker be in a space which has fostered paradigm shifts in our own cultural landscape. On June 30th, Freetown Collective will be give you an experience you won’t forget. Born in Darkness, the Album Launch Concert begins at 7pm. Callaloo Company is located at Bldg. C-22, Western Main Rd, Chaguaramas.
