present MONDAY NIGHT THEATRE FORUM
HELEN CAMPS (Ellen O’Malley Camps), actor, director, teacher, and adult educator, is in the fourth episode of the MONDAY NIGHT THEATRE FORUM on February 1st at Trinidad Theatre Workshop, 7pm.
Helen Camps began in theatre as an actor, adapter and script supervisor with Derek Walcott in 1967. Since then she has become a key player in the development of theatre in Trinidad and the Caribbean, being pivotal in establishing the Little Carib (Trinidad) as a theatre space with technical and administrative infrastructure; founded Teyat Toutafe ( St. Lucia) and co-founded Brown Cotton Outreach Theatre (Trinidad) to name a few accomplishments. However, it is her work with the Trinidad Tent Theatre; a company which singularly revolutonised ‘live’ theatre on the home front, through which many thespians such as such as Raymond Choo Kong, Debra Bocaud Mason, Wendell Manwarren and Mervyn de Goeas cut their teeth, that she is most remembered.
MONDAY NIGHT THEATRE FORUM is a brand new space for wide ranging open discussions on all aspects of drama and theatre. Every other Monday, hosts Tony Hall and Raymond Choo Kong will present theatre practitioners who are renowned exemplars in their respective theatre practices at home and abroad. We have a great community of amazing theatre artists here in Trinidad and Tobago. They contribute so much to our lives through their life’s work. We hope you’ll enjoy this peek behind the curtains as they share how they approach the creative process, how they overcome obstacles and challenges, and what advice they have for all of us especially for young theatre makers in our midst.
