“Built-in Obsolescence” – Refreshing work by Camille Chedda is now on at Alice Yard, WOODBROOK – Stop by and have a look.
Artist’s Note: In “Built-In Obsolescence,” I have used the traditional art of portraiture in conjunction with disposable plastic bags, known colloquially in Jamaica as ‘scandal bags’, to communicate multiple, and at times contradicting, ideas about identity and existence. The painted facial expressions reveal different aspects of physiognomy while confronting the viewer with their gaze. They take on a new form or identity at the base of the bags as they inevitably crumble with time.
“Built-in Obsolescence” is done in Mixed Media/Materials: Acrylic on Sandwich Bags
