In 1975, “THE WIZ”, A re-imagination of the Classic Wizard of Oz tale, opened on Broadway to critical acclaim. It featuring an all-African American cast with music that referenced heavily from that culture: jazz, rhythm and blues, Motown and gospel. The Original Broadway production was directed by one of our Nationals, cultural icon and world renowned artist , the late Geoffrey Holder and went on to win 7 Tony awards, with Geoffrey collecting for both Best Direction and Costume design.

Proscenium Theatre Company is proud and honored to pay tribute toGeoffrey Holder, one of our cultural Icons, with this year’s production of “THE WIZ” [#TheWizTT2014] directed by: the Cacique Award Winning Mervyn de Goeas, with choreography by: COCO Dance FestivalVanguard Award recipient, Linda Pollard-Lake.
