The WS80 Golden Age Poetry Pioneers (WS80 GAPP) ProjectCulture House in collaboration with the Circle of Poets Trinidad & Tobago (The Circle), will be hosting a Special Event on Friday, 27th June, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. at NALIS’ Audio Visual Room in celebration of the eightieth birthday of Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka of Nigeria.

The event entitled The WS80 Golden Age Poetry Pioneers (WS80 GAPP) Project has been endorsed by Zmirage Multimedia Ltd. (Nigeria and United Kingdom), the organizing body of The Wole Soyinka International Cultural Exchange and Essay Competition (WS 80).


The evening’s proceedings will highlight “New Golden Age Poets”, namely, members of The Circle who have entered the realm of poetry and performance in their senior years. They will read Professor Soyinka’s poetry and present their original works. Also featured will be the launch of Kasi Senghor.s book IS LIKE THIS. Kasi, a member of The Circle, is a past President of the Writers’ Union of Trinidad and Tobago (WUTT) and second place winner of WUTT Awards for the President’s Cup Fiction Contest (2011).


The WS80 GAPP project is the forerunner of the first ever WS (Wole Soyinka) Golden Age Poetry Pioneers (GAPP) Awards, a memory project honouring the legacy of our nation’s poets who emerged during the late 1960’s into the 1970’s. The Award Ceremony will be a gala event, scheduled for Saturday, 13th July 2015 and promises to be an annual Award Ceremony.
