Join in on the musical celebration of Brazil’s independence and 100years of Samba with “A Alma Brasileira-The Brazilian Soul”!
The Portuguese and Brazilian Studies Section and Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics in conjunction with the Department of Creative and Festival Arts of the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, under the auspices of the Embassy of Brazil invites all to this avant garde, fundraising musical celebration.
The best and burgeoning local artistes will be collaborating to create a musical extravaganza that for the first time will see Trinbagonians pay a special tribute to Brazil’s 194th independence and the celebration of 100 years since the first recorded samba song in 1916.
Your senses will be treated to the sweet sounds of samba classics interpreted by Caribbean artistes, accompanied by a Live Band with LP guest artiste, Marcus Santos of Bahia Brazil, dances, and capoeira performances.

There is also the opportunity to learn Samba and other Brazilian rhythms and percussion instruments with LP endorsed Brazilian artiste, Marcus Santos! Santos is a contemporary percussionist and educator who commits his life to the study, teaching and performance of his hometown’s Afro-Brazilian music and heritage. Marcus has performed for the President of Brazil, and on TEDx, Telemundo with the “One World Band” produced by MTV. He also played on Sony Pictures, Oscar-nominated movie, ‘Rachel’s Getting Married’ with Anne Hathaway.
