For one night only Etienne Charles brings his exciting New York based group, Creole Soul, to perform his latest critically acclaimed piece, the San Jose Suite!
The San Jose Suite explores and highlights the experiences of Indigenous peoples and African Immigrants with respect to three San Jose settlements, established in Trinidad (now St. Joseph), Costa Rica and California.
To research and develop the piece, Etienne traveled to the three areas and met with First Peoples and African descendants to learn their history, cultural traditions and observe rituals. The suite was premiered to critical acclaim on August 8th 2015 at the California Theater for the San Jose Jazz Summerfest.
