SACOPIC_7942Enjoy an evening of classical music and jazz performed by the St. Augustine Chamber Orchestra and Trinidad and Tobago Youth Philharmonic as they present  Ivory and Ebony-Symphony Meets Swing!

The concept of Ivory and Ebony-Symphony Meets Swing, is incorporating of the European symphony orchestra to play both Classical music (Ivory) and predominantly Afro-American Jazz music (Ebony) – a reverse of the popular song (Ebony and Ivory) by Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder. The objective is to introduce and expose the nation’s youth to seriously study a musical instrument, which can be used to play any type of music, thus changing an incorrect perception in the minds of our young people, who believe that the only instruments relevant to their experience are the guitar and drums.

Be sure to check them out this weekend!

About SECO/TTYP:

The St. Augustine Chamber Orchestra (SACO) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to music education and performance excellence among the youth of Trinidad and Tobago. Mr. Kenneth Listhrop, music educator and conductor, founded the organisation in 1999. SACO is dedicated to promoting and encouraging public knowledge and appreciation of orchestral music interwoven into the art and culture of Trinidad and Tobago both at home and in the wider Caribbean.

In 2006, the board of SACO, in its ongoing plans to offer the nation’s children an engaging, entertaining and educational experience of various genres and styles of music, partnered with Bon Air High School Music Foundation led by Leslie Clement, Glorious Sounds of Tobago led by Pastor David Elder and several music schools across the country to form the Trinidad and Tobago Youth Philharmonic, one of the few and largest youth orchestras in the Caribbean chain of islands
