Peter Sheppard - Small Paintings & sketches

ARTIST STATEMENT
“I feel with mine eyes, create by my touch, see with my soul and hear my artistic conversations and challenges. “
Life is such an abundance of noise and when I paint, I fall into a place of complete peace and quiet. Where, everyday, seems to be a race, a challenge, an emotion not fully explored or understood, my escape lures me into the solitude of peaceful landscapes. Soothed by meandering rivers and embraced by bamboo or a simple house whose curtains gentle blow through the window.

The act of painting in miniature format, is, in itself is the challenge of slowing down from life’s frantic pace. It’s my balance and an important part of my existence. It’s a gift when one can truly leave this mark on Earth and for me, I have nurtured this heavenly gift and combined it with the lessons learned from my parents’ legacy.

At times, I want to exhale and have a “Pollock” moment and vent my frustrations on canvas or simply express the greatness of the landscape and its sweeping panoramas on a larger surface. But there’s also great restraint and control in being able to keep it tight and delicate, a metaphor for life’s journey, regardless of the hills and valleys along the way.
