Ronnie Amoroso’s full length play presents a cast of familiar characters sufficiently roundly drawn to be thoroughly believable. There is the macho man Flash, a taxi driver obsessed by speed and fast women who treats his common-law wife worse than a slave. Their son Adrian, is a turning worm who loathes his father. There is the seductive step-daughter. There are the nouveau riche neighbours. And for comic relief there is the courting postman. (Taken from ‘Sangre Grande by Two’ wins a smile and sympathy’ Judy Stone, Trinidad Guardian, May 28th, 1986)

This fast moving, thoroughly-Caribbean play, based on a true story, is a tapestry interwoven with comedy, conflict, and crisis. It is of everyday life of many families in our society, and centres around Flash’s selfish desire to cater to his senses and enhance his reputation with his taxi driver friends—family be damned!

Errol ‘Blood’ Roberts plays Rufus, alias Flash, the reckless, aging, brutish taxi driver, and Shannalee de Freitas plays his attractive, feisty and saucy stepdaughter, Desiree. Theresa Awai plays Martha, Flash’s forbearing wife, and mother to Desiree and Adrian–played by Levee Rodriguez. Anne Louise Tam and Keino Swamber, play Flash and Martha’s nouveau riche and raucously nosy neighbours, and the delightful, romantic, happy-go-lucky, courting postman is being played by Eric Barry.

Graphic design is by Gillian Trotman, Cyrus Sylvester is designing and constructing the set, and Benny Gomes will do the honours on the lights. Margaret Sheppard is charged with the responsibility for costumes and Susan Hannays Abraham is the production’s assistant. Stage Manager Pablo Castillo is being assisted by Sheena Mohammed and Rachel Clairmont.
